What is Thame Youth Memorial?

Most people remember losing a friend or a classmate while at school and realise that the premature death of a young person has an impact beyond the family and is a loss to the whole community. In Thame and the surrounding villages we want to acknowledge those who died too young – every one gone before their time, before realising their potential in life, and before achieving their ambitions.

We already have an area which will form the memorial provided by the Town Council and formally dedicated in January 2010, and now we are working towards a centrepiece for this haven for remembrance and reflection. To the future, we plan to act as a support within the local community for those affected by such loss and to work with schools, youth groups and health providers to help fund and facilitate anything that can help to reduce youth mortality.

Our Objectives

  • To educate the people of the Thame area in the emotional and physical needs of those affected by the premature loss of a loved one.
  • To support a place of reflection for those affected by the loss of a youth of Thame & surrounding villages.
  • To provide and maintain a lasting monument in Thame to the youth of the town and area who die prematurely.
  • To provide a plaque of remembrance for each individual person who has died, as desired by their loved ones.
